Rhombus of ruin
I have never played Rhombus of Ruin so I will be basing this purely on the story.
The outside story of Rhombus is pretty good. Psilirium is an interesting concept and it's cool to see everyone's different hallucinations. Milla's is particularily sad, harkening to her backstory. The fish folk are fun. Despit the ret-con later, it's hilarious to think the first thing Truman wakes up to is an introduction to Lili's boyfriend. He is understandebly flustered. Okay. Now that all of that's out of the way...
Dr. Caligosto Loboto is possibly the most tragic character in all of Psychonauts, only trumped by maybe Lucrecia Mux. His mind is DEVESTATING like holy shit. Even just the setting. He's still in the bath, the last place he ever felt safe. Just trapped, hiding. Ugh... The direction of the memory vault is done so well. The doll house, Loboto looking in, just reliving the last time he was truly sane over and over. Sitting in the crib, seeing through his eyes, and just feeling that wonder he felt at his abilities. Constantly bending spoons, he was so excited about it! He could have been a great psychic! Ough and the reveal???? His stuffies, his comforts, being lobotomised with him? As he loses part of his identity?!?!? AHHH god I am FEELING AHHHHH! And you find his moral compass, what he thought he had lost forever, and he is so grateful!! And remorsful!!! And you get to help that small part of him that knows what's right fight through the storm and reinstate itself. And he's not back to normal, he never will be, but he's more sane than he's been since he was a boy. Fuck me dude. Dr. Loboto makes me so goddamn sad.
Safe to say I liked Rhombus of Ruin.
